Cappella Sistina (Sistine Chapel) - north and south walls - Perugino, Botticelli, Pinturicchio, Ghirlandaio, Signorelli, Piero di Cosimo. Vault, Last Judgment (1536- 1541) and ceiling (1508 - 1512) by Michelangelo.
Pinacoteca (Painting Gallery) - includes paintings by Giotto, Leonardo, Titian, Fra Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Raphael and Caravaggio's Deposition.
Pio-Clementino Museum - Early Christian, Classical Greek and Roman sculpture, including the Belvedere Torso (1C BC), Laocoön, Apollo (1-2C BC), Hermes (2C Roman), Sleeping Ariadne, Athlete (1C) from original by Lysippus.

Monuments

Pantheon - 9 AM - 1 hour before sunset. Founded by Agrippa in 27 BC and rebuilt (AD 117-125) by Hadrian, converted into a church in the 7C. The dome's diameter equals its height, the largest dome until Brunelleschi's at the Florence Cathedral of 1420-36. The curve of the floor and the circular space create an illusion of vastness. In a side chapel is the tomb of Raphael.The Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome.

Colosseum - 8:30 am to one hour before sunset. € 8 cumulative ticket Colosseum. L'anfiteatro Flavio, inaugurated in 80 CE.

Terme di Caracalla - Baths of Caracalla, Viale Terme di Caracalla, 52. 9-18.30, € 6. One of the largest baths of antiquity, inaugurated 216 CE.

Foro Romano - 9-19:30, € 12. Since the foundation of Rome, 754-753 BC.

San Clemente - Piazza S. Clemente. 9-12, 15:30-18. Lower Church from 1C. Built over a 3C Mithraic temple. 9-11C frescoes. Upper Church, 12C mosaics, frescoes over left aisle by Masolino, and possibly Masaccio.

S. Maria in Trastevere - Piazza di S. M. in Trastevere. Closed 12:45-15. Built 337-352. Mosaics of 12C and Pietro Cavallini, Roman friezes, Romanesque campanile.

S. Maria Maggiore - Piazza di S. M. Maggiore. 7-20. Basilica built in 431. 5C mosaics.

S. Maria Sopra Minerva - Piazza della Minerva. Closed 12-4 PM. Michelangelo's Risen Christ, frescoes by Fillipino Lippi.

S. Maria della Vittoria - Via XX Settembre. Bernini: Ecstasy of St. Teresa.

St. Pietro - (at the Vatican): Dome and Pietà by Michelangelo; Canova, Bernini.

San Pietro in Vincoli - Piazza S. Pietro in Vincoli. Closed 12-4 PM. Michelangelo's Tomb of Julius II, Moses.
